Today we begin looking at World War I. This war was insanely complex in its causes and its political, economic, and cultural effects would be felt globally for decades. It was the first truly technological war, utilizing mechanical methods like tanks, airplanes, and machine guns, and ushering in the advancement of new technology like grenades, flamethrowers, and tranch warfare, creating stalemates that lasted for years and necessitating battles that raged for months. It was called The Great War, The War to End All Wars, but it would be so poorly resolved that war would return to Europe a mere 20 years later.
Song of the day
Today is a big day at SOTD. It's a gray day outside and it's perfect for just chilling out. I think it's a perfect day to drop a classic album on you. That's right...not just one song but a whole album. Every so often moments happen that you will remember for the rest of your life. I remember where I was the first time I heard this album. It was mind blowing for me, and I hope for you all it will be some cool music to chill out to. It's quite possibly my favorite album of any genre, and it is a great example of master musicians practicing their craft. This is the great Miles Davis Quintet, with their album Kind of Blue. Enjoy!
